Nikhil Malvankar, Assistant Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry and member of the  Microbial Sciences Institute, has been named a Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar for 2021. The award honors 16 faculty in the first five years of their academic careers who have each created an outstanding independent body of scholarship and are deeply committed to education.

Dr. Malvankar’s award includes an unrestricted research grant of $100,000 for the project “Biogenic Production of Robust and Scalable Nanomaterials with Genetically Tunable Electronic, Optical, and Mechanical Functionalities”. The Malvankar lab develops bacteria-produced electronic materials with the potential to transform nanotechnology and enable a revolution in green electronics due to their low cost and lack of toxicity.
