Nikhil Malvankar

Nikhil Malvankar, PhD, has been promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure in the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University. Malvankar is also a member of the Yale Microbial Sciences Institute.

Malvankar received an undergraduate degree in physics from the University of Mumbai and a PhD in physics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he also completed his postdoctoral training. The Malvankar lab uses interdisciplinary approaches to develop novel technologies to define the mechanisms microbes use to interact with and manipulate their environment, with the ultimate goal of engineering these interactions to control microbial pathophysiology and ecology. His scientific contributions have been recognized by a High Impact Research Award (Millipore Sigma), Burroughs Wellcome Fund Award, Blavatnik Innovation Award, and National Science Foundation Career Award, among other honors.
